Steps’ management responds to Mel C

More on the Mel C vs Steps argument. Steps’ management has now responded.

From Dotmusic:

Spice Girl Melanie C hit out at teen band Steps in an interview with Smash Hits magazine. She said that Steps – who picked up a Brit award for Best Selling Live Act for their sell-out 34-date tour last year – are ‘”great entertainment” – but not serious artists.

“They don’t write their own material. They’re not serious musicians,” she said. “They don’t even play with a live band on tour, so don’t put them in the same category as someone like me.”

A spokesman for Steps hit back saying: “Steps’ most recent album Steptacular has so far sold 1.5 million copies. I doubt if Mel C’s solo album has sold that many – so don’t put her in the same category as the band. Steps have a lot of respect for Mel C but think it’s sad when people have a pop at them.”

Mel C is currently working on a new harder and rockier album while Steps release their next single Deeper Shade of Blue on 10 April.
