Here is Steps’ management response to the recent rumour about Steps planning to “drop” Pete Waterman.

“Not only has Pete remixed the next Steps single (Deeper Shade Of Blue, 10 April), he has also written their next single (When I Said Goodbye). The story has the whiff of a pup rumour to it, which some misguided journo has written up as fact”.

Despite this, I think that Steps might start branching out anyway to other writers and producers. For any act to stay around for a long while, their style needs to change a certain way to keep people interested.
