Ex-Steps stars Claire Richards and Ian Watkins are reported to have signed a £4million deal with WEA. According to a UK tabloid, the duo agreed the four-album deal yesterday before jetting off to Sweden to work on new material. The singers, who will record under the name ‘H and Claire’, are said to be working with Jorgen Elofsson who wrote Steps’ hit single ‘It’s The Way You Make Me Feel’ as well as Will Young’s number one track ‘Evergreen’.

Elofsson has also worked with the likes of Britney Spears and Irish boyband Westlife.

H and Claire are to release their debut single, ‘DJ’, on 6 May.

“It will sound similar to Steps but gradually we will change our sound slightly,” explained Claire. A video for the single is to be shot in Miami later this month.

Meanwhile, former Steps singer Faye Tozer is said to have changed musical direction for her forthcoming debut solo single. The singer told tabloid reporters: “People may expect a cheesy song, but my sound is a cross between Alanis Morissette and Natalie Imbruglia”. “It’s fun starting from scratch,” she added. “It’s all going very well.”

WEA Records appears to be a AOL Time Warner company – therefore Warner Music would be the parent company. Acts on Warner include Madonna, Alanis Morissette, Craig David and lots lots more. Warner is a bigger company than Jive Records (But I would guess you would already know that!)
