Despite news of some stores running out of Steps singles in just a day, it seems that they won’t be knocking the current number one off the top spot. This is from Worldpop: Shaggy looks like retaining the top spot on this week’s worldpop-sponsored UK singles chart according to midweek sales figures. Shaggy’s track Angel has held off the challenges of Steps and Faithless. Steps’ new double A-side Here and Now/You’ll Be Sorry is a new Top 5 entry together with Faithless’ We Come 1. R&B siblings Brandy & Ray J enter the Top 10 with their new single, a cover of Phil Collins’ Another Day In Paradise. Meanwhile there are also new Top 10 entries for dance duo Basement Jaxx with Romeo, indie heroes Muse with Newborn and former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow with his debut solo single, Close To You. Spice Girl Mel B is a disappointly low entry in the nether reaches of the Top 20 with her new single, Lullaby. DJ Boris Dlugosch together with Moloko’s Roisin Murphy is a new Top 20 entry with Never Enough while Sheffield dance duo I Monster enter the Top 20 with their debut single, Daydream In Blue. On the album chart Radiohead’s Amnesiac album looks set to knock Shaggy off the No 1 spot. Looking at this report it seems that Steps are set for a Top 3 hit at least. Traditionally Steps do get a singles sales boost on a Saturday, for fairly obvious reasons, so get everyone to buy the single that you know! Talking singles, some WHSmiths are selling the single for the cheaper 2.50! So hey point people in that direction and get them buying the single! If Steps don’t make the top spot lets at least get them as high up the charts as possible! Thanks to “BuzzSteps” for that information! This is from Channel 4 text: After conquering the charts with their ace pop tunes, Steps are heading for the States to screen test for movie roles. The five will be trying out in front of the camera individually as well as a group. The Truth: There is no immediate plans to get back to the US, says Steps’ press fella. But it is something they’ve been thinking about and will be “developed”. The summer will include outdoor shows. No idea why the last bit was mentioned but hey, all news is good news!
