Steps working with Gary Barlow, Cyndi Lauper

“The Corrs look set to make a triumphant return to the chart this Sunday. Midweek sales figures show they are on course to be next week’s number one with ‘Breathless’, the first track to be taken from their new album ‘In Blue’. Speaking to dotmusic about their new sound at their swanky album launch party last week, Andrea Corr commented ‘it reflects how we’ve progressed and what we’ve learned’ before skipping off for a few cocktails with the likes of All Saints and Pete Tong. Other dotmusic predictions for high new entries next week are Steps at two, Oasis at three, Limp Bizkit at five, Artful Dodger at six, Alice Deejay at eight and Atomic Kitten at nine. The Corrs will be appearing at Party In The Park in London’s Hyde Park this Sunday.”
We have it in good knowledge that Steps are only a few thousand copies behind, Ste-s always have a good strong sales day on Saturday so if you can get a few other people that you know to buy it during the week it could be a close one come Sunday evening. But if come Sunday they do chart at number two, all isn’t lost as coming number two on a hard week like this isn’t a bad thing and it will be their highest charting single since Love’s Got A Hold On My Heart, which was released a year ago!
Also Channel 4 Teletext has confirmed that the battle for this weeks number one single is a two-way battle between The Corrs and Steps.

“GARY BARLOW is to work with Steps star H on the band’s new album.
Former Take That star Barlow, who Music365 last week reported has been dropped by his record company RCA, is helping H write a tune for Steps’ follow-up to their ‘Steptacular’ album – currently at Number 27 in the UK.
All the Steps members – H, Faye, Lisa, Claire and Lee – will be writing their own tunes for the album. According to British tabloid The Daily Star a Steps insider said “All of the band are writing songs for the new album and they are working with other people, they’re collaborating with co-writers.”
As well as Barlow’s work with H, the collaborations will also see Faye teaming up with Cyndi Lauper – who had a string of hits in the Eighties including ‘Time After Time’ and ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’.
Claire and Lisa haven’t decided who they want to work with yet but Lee will be given a helping hand by Peter Cunnah – who made his name fronting D:Ream, the dance act who had a Number One hit in 1994 with ‘Things Can Only Get Better’.”
This is from Channel 4 Teletext:
“Steps make their acting debut in a BBC 1 special on August Bank Holiday. Claire tells us they’ve filmed some comedy sketches for the show.”
The One & Only Steps makes its terrestrial premiere on Saturday at 4.05pm on ITV.
