This year Steps hosted and opened the Smash Hits Poll Winners’ Party 1999. Steps performed Better The Devil You Know and went on to host the show with excellence! Unlike last year, Steps picked up an award! Not a major award, but H won the Funniest Person In Pop award. Steps came second in the Best British Band category, and fourth in Best Band In The Universe!

Congratulations goes to fellow Jive acts Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. Britney picked up two awards for Best Female and Most Fanciable Female. The BSB cleaned up – quite right too in my opinion – winning five awards: Best Band in the Universe, Best Non-British Band, Best Single (I Want It That Way), Best Album (Millennium) and Best Video (Larger Than Life).

Commiserations to Mel C, (no not really, especially after everything she has said about Steps!) who picked up all the worst awards that she could!
