Steps odds for Christmas number one unchanged
So the single release gets closer and closer but what is the industry expecting to top the UK Ccarts on 19 December? The bookies have once again changed their odds, but Steps remain unchanged. The top three favourites are Cliff Richard (evens), Westlife (7/4) and John Lennon (5/2). Steps are sixth favourites at 16/1 but this could change after this weekend’s Smash Hits Poll Winners’ Party, which STEPS are hosting.
Below is a list of all the singles that are being released on 13 December. What do you think of Steps’ chances?
Just Wave Hello – Charlotte Church (Sony 6685312)
The Final Countdown 2000 – Europe (Epic 66850424)
Imagine – John Lennon (Parlophone CDR6534)
Rainbow Country – Bob Marley/Funkstar Deluxe (Edel 509006722)
North, South, East, West – Marvin & Tamara (Epic 6684902)
Horny Horns – Perfect Phase (Positiva CDTIV123)
Stand Tough – Point Break (WEA CD248)
Two In A Million/You’re My Number One – S Club 7 (Polydor 5615952)
Mr Hanky, The Christmas Poo – South Park (Columbia 6685582)
Say You’ll Be Mine / Better The Devil You Know – Steps (Jive 9201002)
It’s Only Rock And Roll – Various Artists (Universal 1565982)
I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun – Westlife (RCA 74321726012)
It’s going to be tough, we are aware that one Steps CD is enhanced, with clips from the video – but it’s not as bad quality as the Love’s Got A Hold On My Heart enhanced section. Both CDs will cost £3.99 – this is okay only if all other CDs are £3.99 and at this moment I can only guess that the “Various Artists” one will be, as it is a charity single. But as for Westlife and S Club 7, it’s unknown at this stage. Look out for another Xmas single update sometime next week!
In the US, Steps appear in the new home video from Britney Spears, “Time Out With Britney Spears”. They appear at the end in a Jive Records promo with a 1 min 45 sec clip of Tragedy. The video costs $12 and is available now.
