Ebul/Jive pop act Steps notched their 10th-consecutive U.K. top 10 hit and their second No. 1 on the new U.K. singles chart, published yesterday (Oct. 22). “Stomp,” a song clearly modelled on Chic’s “Everybody Dance,” is, according to a sleeve note, Steps’ tribute to that group’s writers, Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards. The song will be included on Steps’ new album “Buzz,” which is due out in the U.K. next Monday (Oct. 30). (Source: Billboard Online)

STEPS run at the top of the charts is coming to a halt this weekend as reports are showing that the new Spice Girls single is beating everything:

The Spice Girls look set to claim their ninth Number One this weekend, according to midweek chart figures.
Their new single, the double A-Side ‘Holler/Let Love Lead The Way’, is murdering the competition, having reportedly sold over 30,000 copies already this week. (To put this in perspective STEPS sold about 13,000 copies at the same stage last week)
Martine McCutcheon’s ‘I’m Over You’ is the girls’ closest rival, but is believed to have sold only around half that of ‘Holler’.
Ricky Martin’s new single ‘She Bangs’ is lined-up to go into the charts at three, with Steps dropping off the top spot, down to four.
Other new entries expected in the top twenty include ‘Trouble’ by Coldplay at eleven, ‘Should I Stay’ at twelve and Iron Maiden’s ‘Out Of The Silent Planet’ at seventeen. (Source: Dotmusic)
