BBC to air Showtime At The Stadium
BBC1 is to show highlights of the Showtime At The Stadium concert, which took place earlier this year. It featured pop acts including A1, Blue, Steps and S Club 7 performing songs from hit musicals. It will be shown on BBC1 at 2.50pm on Sunday 16 December. Recording artists such as Charlotte Church, Petula Clark, Midge Ure, Russell Watson and Heather Nova also took part. The concert took place at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on 20 October. It raised money for BBC Children In Need and the Red Hot Aids charity. Highlights included A1’s version of One Night In Bangkok and Steps singing I Knew Him So Well both from Chess, plus Atomic Kitten’s take on Macavity from Cats. The finale featured Charlotte Church singing You’ll Never Walk Alone.
WH Smith has an offer this week for the Gold album, it will only cost £9.99 – so if you are thinking of getting it for someone at Christmas this week might be a good time to get a copy!
Also Steps-ish news. MTV might cease broadcasting on Telewest Broadband from Monday 10 December – it is due to MTV demanding too much money for their channels to be carried although a solution might be available before then. If not Telewest have said that the channel will be replaced by another music channel, no idea yet if it is Telewest’s own music channel or something like Viva Music… people on ITV-Digital, NTL & Sky might face the same problems in the coming months. Remember if Telewest can’t get a deal it would mean ALL MTV channels going off-air (MTV UK, MTV Hits, MTV Base, VH1, VH1 Classic etc.) although the EMAP channels will be launching on 4 December.
